SMITH CREEK JUNE 20-26, 2016 http://www.nabsa.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=112:smith-creek-june-20-26-2016 http://www.nabsa.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=112:smith-creek-june-20-26-2016 SMITH CREEK NEVADA JUNE 20-26, 2016

“Gorgeous sunsets, desert night walks, campfires, good wind and good friends are just a few of the reasons we love Smith Creek,” (Jen Bohlman, Wind Seeker member). The Nevada “Wind Seekers”Blokart Team will be hosting the annual Smith Creek “Round-Up”at Smith Creek Dry Lake Bed, located in Nevada’s “cowboy country”.Located about 15 miles southwest of Austin, Nevada, Smith Creek is on State Route 722, just off of Highway 50, the “loneliest road in America”.For you History buffs, Highway 50 parallels the famous Pony Express Route.

Since this annual event (normally held on Memorial Day weekend) has been “snowed out” for the last couple of years, in an attempt to regain those warm, windy conditions, the annual Smith Creek rendezvous will be held on the weekend of June 20to 26 this year. The playa surface is usually as smooth as glass and provides an ideal setting for fast racing and foolish frolicking around the fire (the newly introduced marshmallow shooters will surely be on the agenda this year).Along with delicious supper potlucks, nightly bonfires are among the many traditions that always make this an unforgettable event. There are also some hot springs nearby for your soaking pleasure.

If you are flying in, Smith Creek is about a three-hour drive from Reno, Nevada.Alternatively, instead of driving yourself, catch a ride with one of the Wind Seekers folks.Hotel accommodations can be found in the nearby town of Austin, or you can camp under the stars on the playa, where it can be so quiet, “it will hurt your ears”.Hope to see y’all there!

Contacts:Bob Casey [ blokartsnnv@aol.com]775-848-5226775-848-5226, Wendy Kirkland [ wkkirkland@gmail.com], Charlotte Bohlman [ mbohlman@ttusd.org].E-mail any of us for more specific directions and/or to make arrangements for transportation.

Directions:There are basically two ways to get to Smith Creek from Highway 50. One is turning off on Hwy 722, 3 miles past Middlegate (Gabbs Hwy intersects with Hwy 50), go over the steep but scenic Carroll Summit and about 6 miles past the edge of Smith Creek valley, turn off (left) on the Brown's Well Rd at 39.29031N, 117.45544W, Elev 6135. Proceed to your left, towards the lake bed end until you see the Wind Seekers caravan. A second route is staying on Hwy 50 and turning right onto Hwy 722 to the west over Railroad Pass, then at 39.32148N, 117.43348W, elev. 6105 turning right on the short dusty dirt road to the playa.Proceed as previously to the far end of the lake bed.

NABSA EAST COAST FALL BLOKART SAIL

Bader Field, Atlantic City, N J, October 9, 10 &11

The Fall Wildwood blokart Sailing event is moving to Bader Field. After taking a poll of the Wildwood attendees who sail both sites it was unanimous that we have more sail time at Bader. No low tide time to work around and at Bader you can sail any wind direction with less wind. You can stay dry and no more sand to clean off your equipment. If someone still wants to sail the beach, low tide on Monday 10/13 is 1:30 PM, Brigantine is only 3 miles from Bader.

Bader has plenty of room for racing and practice dial up starts as well as plenty of room for individual sailing at the same time. There will be workshops on sailing  technique  and equipment. The runways and  tie down area are in excellent condition. The only  problem you might have is wearing out tires if the wind is stong and you are pushing it.

I do pay a daily fee of $300.00 to rent the airport; attendees will be expected to chip in to cover the cost.

South West flies into Philadelphia (PHL), 64 miles from Bader Field. Atlantic City (ACY) airport is 10 miles away and has limited service.

Lodging:   There is a Knights Inn directly across from Bader Field. (It is within walking distance across the street) that is offering lodging for $59.00 a night + tax.

Knights Inn, 500 N. Albany Ave, (Black Horse Pike, Rt. 322) Atlantic City NJ 08401, call direct 609-348-1100. Mention North American Blokart Sailing.

A FEW MILES OUTSIDE Atlantic City on the same road with more amenities is the Comfort Inn, 7079 Black Horse Pike, West Atlantic City, NJ 08232-- 609-484-1900www.comfortinnsuitesac.com $68.00 to $85.00 per night.

Please let me know if you plan to attend by October 5. Registration form and Liability sign off will be available on site.  The Jersey Boys are planning a few cookouts.  Sailors from NV, WI, CA and Canada are already planning.  . . Any question email or call me.

WILWOOD BEACH BLOKART SAIL April 16-19, 2015

This Spring we will be having our semi- annual blokart sailing event on the beaches of Wildwood and Wildwood Crest, NJ. Low Tide on Friday April 17 is at 1:06 PM, this is almost perfit timing for low tide, we should be able to sail from 10;00 AM to 5:PM.The group’s new set up location was excellent at Cressi Ave on the beach, which is the end of the Wildwood Boardwalk. A lot more people came down to observe the blokarts and ask questions at this location. As usual most of the sailors who had extra equipment brought it to share so that most people were who came for a demo ride were able to sail and other blokart owners who needed a bigger or smaller sail were able to borrow one. This is a North American Blokart Sailing Association (NABSA) official event with NABSA securing the permits and providing the liability insurance certificates to the city of Wildwood and Wildwood Crest. NABSA  All participants will be required to sign a waiver. Any questions contact "Fran PresidentNABSA" <president@nabsa.org>     609-314-3429.

The rooms are much larger and we just rolled our blokarts into their garage for overnight storage.  Most of us when down to the Shalimar Sat. night to join the kite buggiers for the cookout. Lodging is still available at the Shalimar.
